Dessemination of Prevalence of Undernourishment (PoU) Sulawesi Utara Province

Dessemination of Prevalence of Undernourishment (PoU) Sulawesi Utara Province

November 13, 2024 | BPS Activities

Wednesday, 13th November 2024 – Head of BPS-Statistics Sulawesi Utara Province, Aidil Adha, was invited as a resource person at the Dissemination of Prevalence of Undernourishment (PoU) Indicator of North Sulawesi Province held at the Sintesa Peninsula Hotel, Manado.

This activity was opened by Elvira Katuuk as the Head of Bappeda of North Sulawesi Province. In her opening remarks, Elvira said that all stakeholders, both at the provincial and district/city levels, must implement various integrated and sustainable food and nutrition programs. Concrete steps such as community empowerment in local food production, increasing access to nutritious food, and sustainable nutrition education are efforts that must be carried out together in order to realize a resilient and independent North Sulawesi community.

Prevalence of Undernourishment (PoU) is the proportion of the population in an area that consumes food lower than the energy sufficiency standard to be able to live a healthy, active, and productive life, expressed as a percentage. PoU is listed in the RPJMN and RPJMD, and is one of the SDGs goals in the right to food "Eradicating hunger, achieving food security and improved nutrition, and promoting sustainable agriculture", and is also listed in GFSI and SOFI.

In his material, Aidil explained that the development of North Sulawesi PoU for the 2017-2024 period experienced fluctuations with an increasing trend. The North Sulawesi PoU figure has been below Indonesia's PoU figure since 2017. The highest PoU figure for North Sulawesi was highest in 2021 at 6.91 percent, then tended to decrease until 2024 at 6.16 percent.

With this activity, it is hoped that it can increase the understanding and awareness of all parties regarding the importance of monitoring PoU indicators, so that they can take strategic steps to reduce malnutrition and support the achievement of better food security in the future.
