September 24, 2024 | BPS Activities

The availability of timely and accurate agricultural data is the foundation for realizing targeted agricultural policies. Since 2018, BPS has collaborated with the Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT) & the National Institute of Aeronautics and Space (LAPAN) which are now merged into the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency (Ministry of ATR/BPN), and the Geospatial Information Agency (BIG) to improve the methodology for calculating the area of rice harvests through the application of objective measurement by utilizing advances in information and communication technology and the availability of high-resolution satellite imagery. This collaboration is realized in an activity entitled "Integrated Agricultural Statistics Data Collection for Food Crops with the Area Sample Framework (KSA) Method" or better known as the KSA Survey.

The implementation of the KSA Survey for rice commodities began to be implemented nationally in 2018. Field observations of the KSA Survey were carried out on the last 7 (seven) days of each month. Based on the results of the KSA Survey, in 2023, the rice harvest area will reach around 54.56 thousand hectares or a decrease of 3.63 thousand hectares (6.24 percent) compared to 2022. Meanwhile, rice production in 2023 is 238.19 thousand tons of dry milled grain (GKG). If converted into rice, rice production in 2023 will reach around 133.85 thousand tons, or a decrease of 3.11 thousand tons (2.27 percent) compared to rice production in 2022. In addition to producing an estimate of the harvest area, the KSA Survey also provides an overview of other rice amat phases, such as the area of early vegetative phase, late vegetative, generative, potential for crop failure, area of fallow agricultural land, and area of agricultural land planted with crops other than rice. What you can find in this publication:

- Quantitative Data: Detailed information on the area of land used to plant rice, the amount of rice that was successfully harvested (in tons of GKG), and its comparison with the previous year.

- Analysis: Explanation of factors that influence the increase or decrease in rice production, such as weather conditions, use of agricultural technology, and government policies.

- Graphs and Tables: Data visualization that makes it easier for you to understand rice production trends in North Sulawesi.
