Statistics Official News Release - February 15th 2021

Today February 15, 2021, BPS North Sulawesi Province released the 2020 North Sulawesi Province Poverty Profile indicator.

North Sulawesi BPS recorded that in September 2020, the number of poor people (residents with per capita expenditure per month below the Poverty Line) in North Sulawesi reached 195.85 thousand people (7.78 percent), up 3.48 thousand people from March. 2020 which amounted to 192.37 thousand people (7.62 percent). When compared to conditions in March 2020, the percentage of poor people in urban and rural areas has both experienced an increase. In urban areas it rose 0.09 percentage points to 5.31 percent, while in rural areas it increased 0.39 percentage points to 10.64 percent.

During the period March 2020 - September 2020, the number of poor people in urban areas increased by 2.86 thousand people (from 68.80 thousand people to 71.66 thousand people), while in rural areas it increased by 0.62 thousand people (from 123.57 thousand people increased to 124.19 thousand people). The role of food commodities towards the Poverty Line is much higher than that of non-food commodities. The contribution of the Food Poverty Line to the Poverty Line in March 2020 was 77.02 percent. This condition has not changed much compared to the condition in March 2020, which was 76.95 percent.

Types of food commodities that have a major effect on the poverty line value in urban and rural areas are rice, filter clove cigarettes, tuna / tuna / skipjack. Meanwhile, the non-food commodity that has a big influence on the poverty line value in urban and rural areas is housing.

During the period March 2020 - September 2020, the Poverty Depth Index (P1) and the Poverty Severity Index (P2) increased.
